Kara Mauer - Who Am I?

I come from a family of four, consisting of my mother, father, older sister, and myself. I have lived in Southern California my entire life, going to school, participating in competitive dance, playing instruments, and now attending USC. I am a Film Production major who has found my voice in the stories that I would like to tell, as well as what aspects of that work I would like to pursue. I would love to write and direct my own projects, become a producer, then an executive, possibly starting my own production company. Currently, I am interning at a production company, where I am performing script coverage, and following an executive. After this, I would like to get a job doing development a studio, while writing a feature film of my own. 

     I am incredibly similar to my parents. My father taught me patience and that being underestimated is the best tool at your disposal. My mother taught me how to be a strong woman, and how to question things in life. I am unlike my parents in the sense that I am clearly in a different generation, and we value different beliefs in certain societal areas of life. This is not a bad thing, because perspective is important.

     I am operating solely under my own expectations. I have created my own goals, and my own dreams. It is a blessing that I am able to operate under these conditions. The people around me trust me enough to make my own decisions and decide my own path. Greta Gerwig, among other woman directors and producers are people that I admire. Being a woman in film and telling stories that surround women are important, and I aspire to continue that.

     I feel as if I connect with a beaver, because beavers have to work together to create dams in order to succeed, and I feel like I excel when I am in a collaborative environment. When I was a child, my family and I would go visit Mammoth, and we would spend hours in the forest, hiking and mountain biking. This is the reason I feel a strong connection with nature.
