This weekend my best friend and I ventured to Phoenix, Arizona, where our other best friend of 7 years attends school. Her 21st birthday was this past weekend, and we wanted to spend that time with her! It was extremely fun to get away from California for a weekend, and to experience something different. It's interesting, because before this year, I had never been to Arizona even though I have lived in the state adjacent to it my whole life. We traveled to Scottsdale, Gilbert, Downtown Phoenix and Tempe throughout the trip, giving me a sense of Arizona's culture as well as nightlife.
My favorite spot in our trip had to be Old Town Scottsdale. The Entertainment District contains fun bars, restaurants, clubs, shows, and movie theaters. Every weekend, they shut down all the streets in Old Town and allow people to roam around, meeting new people and enjoying the atmosphere. I thought it was wonderful to get a sense of what that life is like, and how it differs from LA and Southern California activities. We also met her friends who are all super interesting people, and fun to be around. We were always doing something over the span of the trip which made it that much more memorable. I absolutely want to go back and visit in the future!
I believe the best part of the trip was the getaway from my usual routine. I have had a crazy busy summer, between this class, my internship, and working two other jobs. Getting away from everything was much needed, especially because I have been overwhelmed about getting all of my requirements done. This weekend actually felt like a summer vacation, and it reminded me how much I love life and friends. With this, it made me excited for next semester, and all the memories I'll be making my senior year at USC.
Summer is the time to take a break and enjoy life. I'm glad you were able to make time to visit friends and have fun despite your busy schedule. Arizona sounds like a great place to visit, would love to see it one day.
ReplyDeleteI hope you give yourself enough breaks and take care of your mental health. Covid has made a lot of people burnt out. Arizona sounds so fun! Were you there during the NBA finals?
ReplyDeleteSounds like a very fun weekend. Arizona seems like a very fun place to go to, I have always wanted to go. I hope you enjoyed some time off from the grind!
ReplyDeleteTravelling is always a nice change of pace. I have only ever been to Phoenix, but I can't imagine Arizona changes a lot. My favorite part of the trip was tubing down some river with my friends. It seems to be common there, but I have never heard of it before going. I am happy you enjoyed your trip!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds so fun, I have a couple good friends from Scottsdale/Phoenix who have told me a lot about this. Glad you had fun and were able to get away from all the things you've been doing, I can definitely relate. I have never been to Scottsdale or Arizona but I definitely want to go sometime soon.
ReplyDeleteAw I went to Old Town Scottsdale this year with Connor and his family and it was so cute!! It's awesome that they shut down the streets for people to roam and mingle on the weekends. That's something we didn't get to see while we were there. Sounds like such a fun trip!
ReplyDeleteHi Kara, glad that you have sometime to getaway with your friends to Arizona especially when you feel very overwhelmed in your life. I think that regardless of places and duration, as long as you step out from your room or workplace to a new place, you would feel more relaxed and it would help you relieve stress from your life. That's the meaning of having vacations and traveling plans~ I also would like to go visit Arizona in the future!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like so much fun, I have to live vicariously through you as I can't do any of these fun things myself yet... 21 is so close. I love finding streets with lots of great restaurants and bars that are lively all the time, I feel like it's something LA is missing. There aren't really a lot of central, cute, comfortable, fun areas in downtown. It's all spread out and a bit uptight.
